In modern society, it is so easy to create a movie and present it to the audience in its best way, using expensive ads, popular actors, and high technologies. Unfortunately, not all movies are usually worth people’s attention, because of different reasons: boring plot, stupid characters, predictable end, etc. Of course, each movie has its own fans and admirers, and some people cannot understand the choice of the others. I belong to the group of people, who find the Fast and the Furious film series as one of the best ideas offered to the viewer at the beginning of the 21st century. In my opinion, Fast Five turns out to be one of the most successful parts of the franchise due to a perfectly gathered crew, interesting ideas, unbelievable drive, and attention to a number of issues, which are usually crucial for many people, such as love, friendship, respect, personal principles, job, and duties. Fast Five is the movie that shows us the way to treat people, save hope, and believe in the power of family most of all.
Fast Five Uniqueness: How It Is Possible Not to Lose Personal Identity
It is so hard to create a movie and touch upon the different aspects of life at the same time. Nowadays, there are so many things to be captivated by: technologies, politics, development, or relations at different levels. In this variety of suggestions, people start forgetting such a simple thing as the importance of family and appreciation of a chance to be close to the dearest people given by nature. Some people may think that Fast Five is another action movie about drive, risk, and people, who cannot imagine their lives without cars. For me, this movie is something that is more interesting. It is a possibility to look at the relations people may have. It is a story about the respect that exists in a variety of forms: respect for beloved people, respect to work, admiration of choices made, and family created independently.
I think that the main purpose of the movie is not only to show people how fast cars can be, but to help people realize that family remains to be the most important thing on Earth, no matter how many temptations exist around. Though the idea of family relations was firstly presented in The Fast and the Furious 2001, I believe that Fast Five is the part, where the climax of family relations takes place. The point is that family is not only a group of people with the same bloodline. There are so many people in the world, who do not have a chance to live with parents, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, children, etc. They are alone. Still, they should never lose hope to find some people to create families with. It is so easy to look around and find someone, who may share the same interests, fears, or goals and make an attempt to become closer.
Nowadays, people are so afraid to start trusting someone, believe in someone, and give an opportunity to take care of yourself. Fast Five shows that people from different parts of the world may be gathered in one team that becomes the only family they have. Of course, there should be a root for any family. In Fast Five, Dominic (Vin Diesel) and Mia (Jordana Brewster) Toretto along with Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) become that crucial root that could unite other interesting characters with their own interests, truths, and ideas, such as Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Han (Sung Kang), Tej (Ludacris), Gisele (Gal Gadot), Vince, Leo, and Santos. On the one hand, all these people have different plans for the future and live in the different parts of the world. On the other hand, their passion to speed and drive and abilities to neglect anything but family and friends unite them and make them strong and ready for any challenge. Due to such an interesting cast and plot, it becomes very easy to attract the attention of the different types of people: young men, who think that they should take a risk to enjoy this life, young ladies, who may enjoy a number of handsome guys and envy the three women in the crew, rowdies, who believe that there is no escape of troubles, and many other people, who really like action, speed, and beautiful landscapes of Brazil.
So, what is so special about Fast Five and its attention to family relations? People may say that there are many drama movies or comedies, where the necessity to have and to respect family is mentioned. As it has been already mentioned, Fast Five is not about bloodline families. It is about the families created by people due to their own interests and beliefs. It is not about marriage or betrayal. It is about trust and hope that people are in need of. Dominic Toretto says that “money will come and go. We all know that. The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room. Right here, right now. Salute, mi familia” (Fast Five). Some people may come and leave. Even if they name themselves friends, they do not have any idea on how it is to be a true friend. Real friends will never forget a promise to be together even being apart because of some reason. Only the real friends may be called a family, the rest is fake.
The relations between Vince and the team deserve certain attention. First, Vince invites guys to earn some money and steal several cars. Then, Vince puts them in danger. The result was predictable – Vince was asked to leave the team. However, the way he was asked is interesting, indeed. Dom does not fight, cry, or try to find some explanations. He just asks questions, gets answers, and makes a decision. It was enough for Dom to realize that Vince is hard to be trusted again. Still, as soon as Vince saves Mia from bad guys, Dom, without any words, allows Vince to stay with them. This situation proves that true family relations do not need any explanations, long speeches, or empty promises. Trust and faith are the two main factors, on the basis of which it is possible and necessary to create a family. In Fast and Furious 6, Dom will tell that “you don’t turn your back on family, even when they do” (Fast & Furious 6). But it is another kind of story with its own backgrounds and purposes.
So, the question remains the same: is it possible for a movie to change the human nature or, at least, to teach something important? My answer is yes. Fast Five is a good source of information on the way to make this life better, be able to avoid trouble, believe in personal strengths, and trust in family. The best proof of success of the message sent by Fast Five, as well as other parts of the franchise, may become the events that took place recently, after Paul Walker’s death. The actor, who performed the role of one of the main characters in the movies, had tragically died in a car accident. People from the different parts of the world came to say goodbye to their favorite Brian O’Conner. They cried, shared their best memories about Paul, and admitted that Fast and the Furious would never be the same without Brain. A number of people, who did not meet Walker in real life, felt sorry, as it was their own relative, who died. Paul Walker as any other person of the crew became a real family member for all fans of the Fast and the Furious film series. Do you need more proof? Hardly! A family created on the screen becomes a family in the real life for those, who start losing hope to find really good people to befriend with. Fast Five is a unique chance to see how it is possible for a family created by an accident and checked by time to divide one passion and never lose personality, staying loyal to personal interests, beliefs, and purposes to live happily.
